Take a look at our new school slogan and our revised school values, aims and purposes. |
Following consultations with pupils, parents, staff and governors, and our two twilight sessions, we have created clear statements that we feel reflect the ethos of our school, and the direction in which we want our school to evolve. We used the ideas contributed by everyone about our strengths and what we do well, along with the areas we want to improve, to help define these values, aims and purposes. They are closely linked to our Rights and Responsibilities, and demonstrate our mission to encourage every child to achieve and be happy. Our new school slogan is unveiled at the top of this page, and stands for the very essence of what we aim to promote and achieve at All Saints. |

The book shop team with the Jungle Book adventure stories we had published... Ruby Celebration of learning!Monday, 10th December 2012 Into the Wild: 'Rainforests'To mark the end of a fantastic term of learning about the Rainforest, Ruby class held a special gift shop event for parents. Each child took on the role of a professional shop assitant or waiter, as they explained to parents about the items they had made for sale, gave change for items purchased and packaged items bought. They also took orders and served refreshments, including special cup-cakes made by every member of the class. Parents were also invited to look at the learning on display, including our letters to the Prime Minister concerning deforestation, and our information texts about Rainforest creatures and the island of Madagascar. We are so proud of Ruby class for the fantastic learning they have achieved this term by being brilliant active learners. Ruby class would like to thank everyone who came to the celebration event. They especially appreciate that their items were bought. The money that was taken will go towards school funds. Thank you everyone for your support. |

Ruby Class trip to Bristol Zoo!On Tuesday 3rd of December, a class of excited Rubies embarked on an adventure to Bristol Zoo, where they saw their Rainforest topic learning come to life! Alongside visiting the different areas of the zoo, such as the reptile house, the lion's den and the monkey kingdom, they also had a great view of gorilla island, where they could watch the gorillas being fed. We were also part of two special educational sessions, where we examined artefacts, found out more about the rainforest and its wildlife, and touched a real boa constrictor! We also held a hissing Madagascan coachroach, and felt the spiky skin of a bearded dragon. Everyone had such a great day - some of the Rubies said it was their best trip yet! Our favourite thing was to see the real creatures that we had studied in the classroom. So if you want to know anything about Rainforests, please ask a Ruby!

Sapphire Celebration AssemblyNovember 2012 Parents were invited to a special assembly where Sapphires demonstrated what they have learnt this term. We were really impressed with the things they showed us how to do, such as finding a shape by being a detective and looking at its properties! Sapphires then explained about what makes effective instructions as part of their literacy learning, bringing it alive by modelling tricky instructions. Sapphires also talked about their topic learning: the Wild West, and explained what they did on their school trip to the American Museum in Bath. Finally, a great explanation of the planets, and the phases of the sun and moon, were given. Well done Sapphires for a brilliant assembly! |

Ruby Class Celebration AssemblyThe fabulously talented Ruby class showcased their learning so far this term to parents and the whole school on Wednesday 14th November. Amongst the many brilliant things presented were maths experts showing us how to work out addition, subtraction and multiplication sums. We also had agony aunts giving advice to characters from the Jungle Book, while in keeping with our Rainforest topic were experts who explained about the different layers, including a 3D model that the class had made.
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
If that wasn't amazing enough, Rubies also showed Photostory movies based on their innovated poems for 'Walking through the Jungle', read out information texts about Madagascar, AND brought a branching database on Rainforest creatures to life! The assembly ended with Rubies singing 'Wonder' by Emilie Sande, which they had learnt off by heart through story making. We were lucky enough to have Sam on drums, Imani on piano, and Gemma's choreography to make it even more magical. Well done everyone - we are so proud of you! |

Key Stage 2 trip to London to see Matilda the Musical! |
|---|
This magical day started with an early 9am departure and included taking in some incredible sights of the capital city before reaching the theatre. We had great views of the Thames, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. We could even see the people in the pods of the London Eye we were so close! Other exciting moments included spying a Dr Who telephone box, waving to the Horseguards, seeing Nelson's column and the National Gallery (where Take one Picture will be shown), along with managing to get a glimpse of Buckingham Palace! Matilda the Musical itself left us inspired and amazed at the brilliant performances and special effects. Highlights included laser beams shooting around the theatre, a 'girl' flying through the air onto the ground, and flashing disco ball lights! Everyone agreed the whole day was one they would remember for the rest of their lives, and has made everyone want to visit London, and the theatre, again! Come back soon to see the pictures of our trip! |
Pirates of the Curry Bean! |
|---|
The talented members of Sapphire class, with gallant support from year 4, produced an awe-inspiring theatrical display of brilliance this week! A few of school council had made cakes and biscuits which were enjoyed and appreciated by all! Well done to this year's fantastic school council members. |
Ruby Class Celebration Assembly and Coastal Museum |
|---|
Rubies started their celebration assembly by holding a special catwalk show to present their beautifully designed cotton bags! The assembly also featured a maths masterclass on telling the time and using the column method to add, along with children reading prologues to their adventure stories. Following the assembly, parents were invited into the Ruby coastal museum! The museum was a culmination of all the hard work Rubies had put into learning about their 'coasts' topic. Exhibits included biographies of Mary Anning and Powerpoint presentations on coastal features and how they are created. The children made a gift shop area, where the sea shells and watercolours of famous coastal landmarks they had painted were for sale, alongside special adverts. |
| In the cafe area, rock cakes that the children had made were for sale, and parents could take a look at the 'wanted!' posters for smugglers, and a breakdown of the costings for the cake ingredients to see which supermarket was cheapest, while they ate. |
| Each member of the class wore a badge that showed visitors to the museum what they were responsible for, including cashiers, gift-wrappers, museum guides and waitresses. Rubies raised £47.68 from their museum, which will go towards buying furniture for our new library! |

Year 6 Weymouth Residential |
|
|---|---|
| A group of excited but nervous year 6s embarked on their five day residential trip to Weymouth, early on Monday 25th June, along with Mrs Powell and Mrs James. | |
| Helping each other by working as a team, they experienced a brilliant week of activities from abseiling and kayaking, to tunnelling and enjoying a disco and karaoke at their hotel, to town trails and a BBQ on the beach. They were also very impressed with the beautiful sea views from their hotel windows! | |
| The children also got along brilliantly with year 6s from our cluster schools, who they will meet again when they start at the Gryphon in September! To have participated so enthusiastically was a fantastic achievement, and we are very proud of our year 6s. Also a big thank you to Mrs Powell and Mrs James for all their hard work during the trip. | |
Sapphires visit Alner's Gorse |
|
|---|---|
| Sapphires made the most of the glorious weather on Monday 18th June to take a trip to Alner's Gorse with Mrs Crumpler and wildlife expert Nigel Spring. Bishops Caundle and Africa! |
|
|---|---|
|
|
| The whole school enjoyed a special presentation during Monday afternoon, led by Chris and her husband who had travelled to Uganda. They told us all about their trip and showed us pictures of what life is like over there. They also brought with them something very exciting - letters from children in a school in Uganda! Children will be getting a letter from a Ugandan child, and will be able to write back. We think this might be the furthest we have ever sent a letter before and we are very excited to tell our new pen-pals all about our school. | |
| We were also shown beautiful jewellery made from paper and a fly swatter made from beading and cow hair. Mrs Crumpler was also presented with a unique hand carved wooden stool with a leather cow-hide strap, which had come all the way from the Ugandan village of Kaabong, where our new pen-pals live. Many thanks to Chris and her husband for a really interesting talk! | |
Walk to School Week Winners Announced! |
|
|---|---|
| Year 6s organised all the data from our recent Walk to School Week and announced in assembly those children who had walked a significant distance, based on laps around the field and their journey from home. Many of us achieved distances of 5km, some 10km and a few even managed 20km! Trophies have been awarded to those who managed to walk the furthest, but a big well done goes to everyone for a fantastic achievement! | |

|
A visit from the Gryphon and a warm welcome back to the year 7s! |
We were thrilled to receive a visit from the Gryphon school, not least because the year 7s who visited us were some of last year's year 6s! They gave a led a brilliant assembly with the Reverend Tregale and Mrs 'P', head of year 7, about how we are all special. | |
|---|---|---|
| The year 7s read out a special piece of writing they had created, formed a 'tableaux' scene, and encouraged us in a time-trial stacker competition! Thanks for a brilliant assembly! | ||

Skip to be Fit! |
|
|---|---|
The whole school learnt essential skipping techniques on Tuesday, 12th June when skipping expert John McCormack visited the school. Armed with special skipping ropes that track the number of skips you take, John explained different techniques needed to skip well, as well as explaining how skipping can be a great form of exercise.We had some fantastic music to skip to, and even the staff had a go! Although 2 minutes doesn't sound like a long time, it is actually really hard to keep skipping without losing your breath! Everyone skipped really well, with some people taking over 120 skips in 2 minutes - that's 1 a second! For more information about the Skip to be Fit initiative, visit their website at www.skip2bfit.com. |

Year 4 trip to Leeson House! |
||
|---|---|---|
Year 4 started the second half of their Summer half term brilliantly with an amazing trip to Leeson House.The trip began with a visit to Studland beach, where we identified different types of shells and fossils. We also looked at how sand dunes form, and took wind and temperature readings in different types of dune. Finally, we saw Old Harry Rocks and talked about how the wind and sea erosion created its coastal features of caves, arches, stacks and stumps, before making our own in the sand. |
||
Once at Leeson House we learnt about map reading using complicated keys, and spent the afternoon orienteering around the grounds. The year 4s all agreed it was a fantastic trip, and couldn't wait to add their learning about coasts to their class museum exhibit, to be held later in the term! |
||
All Saints hosts a red, white and blue super Jubilee street party! |
||
|---|---|---|
| During the afternoon of Friday, 1st June, our school marked the start of the special Jubilee weekend by throwing its own street party. Parents, governors and the local community were invited to tea and cake provided by the FOASS, who also did an amazing job of organising and manning stalls selling hand-made friendship bracelets, pot plants, and cup cakes, along with raffle tickets to win hampers containing products the children had brought in. | ||
The whole school sat along specially decorated tables and played pass the parcel and balloon games before tucking in to a Jubilee feast, whilst listening to music throughout the decades of the Queen's reign. Before the day was over, everyone was involved in a treasure hunt, where the children in their groups had to find and piece together a jigsaw puzzle in the shape of the Queen's face. The icing on the cake was the special fly-past of the Royal Navy helicopters, as well as a World War I 'Swordfish' bi-plane, who were due to fly for the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. We waved and they waved back to us! Thank you to everyone involved in this event - we had a lovely afternoon, and one that hopefully the children will remember as an especially special occasion for years to come! |
||
Sports Day in the Sunshine! |
||
|---|---|---|
A truly memorable sports day was held at school during a sun-soaked afternoon on Tuesday 29th May. The whole school was cheered on by parents and staff as each class took part in a carousel of activities ranging from accuracy throwing to hurdling. |
||
|
||
Thrilling races were held towards the end of the afternoon, where children from each colour team, red, green and blue, competed in sprints, skipping, obstacle courses and even dressing up races, rounded off by a relay made up of children from every year. |
||
|
One of the most exciting events was a new one for this year: the tug of war. Sapphires used special techniques taught to them by Mr Rich to help them keep their balance and use their strength to pull the rope. After a few closely fought rounds, the green team were victorious. |
|
| It was with baited breath as the whole school waited to hear which team had triumphed - and it was the blue team! Congratulations to the blue team, but also many congratulations to the red and green teams for a magnificent effort. Many people thought that the best part of the afternoon was seeing how generous the children were in their help and support of others from all teams, cheering and encouraging them on. We are very proud to have children who help each other to achieve and have confidence in themselves - well done everybody! A big thank you also goes to members of the FOASS, and also to Mr Rich and Miss Scott for their help! | ||
Olympic AmbFOASSdor Assembly |
||
|---|---|---|
| On Monday 28th May the whole school met Cordie Tett, an Olympic AmbFOASSdor for Schools. She told us all about the amazing events that are happening in Weymouth during the Olympics, including activites for families on the beach, massive screens to watch events on, and even a special domed tower to travel up and get a brilliant view of the sailing down below! | ||
| The value we are focusing on this week is inclusiveness, and Cordie explained to us about the history of the Olympics and the Para-Olympics, and that they are based on people from all countries taking part. We especially liked the Para-Olympic values of 'Inspiration, Determination, Courage and Equality', as they link closely to our own school values. | ||
All Saints aims for Rights Respecting Schools award |
||
|---|---|---|
| At All Saints we have been working towards achieving level 1 of the Rights Respecting Schools Award. This is an award created by Unicef that is presented to schools who are using its messages in all aspects of their learning. From classroom and lunchtime charters, to our new values, to the language we use when dealing with problems and issues, to the skills we use to help us learn, we have been trying hard to embody the ethos of what it is to be a Rights Respecting school, and our 'rights and responsibilities' throughout our school day (and beyond). | ||
| On Monday 21st May, Mr Powell from Unicef came in to see if our school is demonstrating that it is a Rights Respecting school. We will find out soon if we have achieved level 1. In the meantime, take a look at this term's hall displays each class have done to explore this term's key article from the Unicef Covention of the Rights of the Child: article 31 - the right to rest, play, do things we enjoy, and to be able to develop our talents. | ||
Key Stage 2 enjoy a spot of Golf with expert coaching |
||
|---|---|---|
On Tuesday 22nd May, Ruby and Sapphire classes enjoyed learning key golf skills from expert coach James. Some of us wondered how far across the valley the golf balls could have gone! Everyone really enjoyed the experience and would definitely do it again! Thanks very much to James for an amazing day of golf in the sunshine! |
||
Year 6s meet the Queen! |
||
|---|---|---|
| Our year 6s were terribly excited to go down to Sherborne Abbey on Tuesday 1st May along with schools from around the area to meet none other than the Queen! Visiting Sherborne on her tour of the South-West, along with her husband Prince Phillip, the royal entourage and lots of newspaper reporters, the Queen came to see a very special tea party that was thrown in honour of her Diamond Jubilee year. | ||
The year 6s made special 'tea party' hats, and enjoyed a party atmosphere while waiting for Her Majesty to arrive. When she did, the year 6s not only met her but spoke to her as well! It was a very special morning, and one that all who went said they'd remember for the rest of their lives. |
||
Key Stage 2 Football Tournament |
||
|---|---|---|
| The year 5 and 6 girls also played in the tournament, and also came fourth - well done girls! | ||
Hooke Court - year 5 residential |
||
|---|---|---|
|
||
| Everyone's favourite activity, however, was the creation and launching of our own rockets! They went extraordinarily high in the sky - some landed in trees, while one group's fell into the neighbouring pig sty! The pig and her piglets were so interested in the rocket that they started to eat it! | Everyone had an amazing time at Hooke Court, and we particularly enjoyed meeting with other schools in our cluster. We got on really well with our new friends, and worked well together as a team. | |
In assembly this week our theme is...
On a beautiful but hot day on Wednesday 28th March, our netballers took part in a tournament against all the primary schools in North Dorset... and won!
We now have the trophy at All Saints for a whole year, and will go on to compete against the winnng teams across the other areas of Dorset.
A big thanks to the mums who came with the team to the Gryphon and supported them, and huge thanks to Mrs Powell for her expert coaching.
During the same day, our football team also did fantastically well, playing through the heat and working as a team to end up in fourth place overall. It is a fantastic result, and reflects the huge amount of hard work the team have put in this season. Congratulations!
Our Easter celebration service at All Saints Church |
The whole school went along to Bishops Caundle church on Thursday 29th March for our special Easter service.Drama club performed a piece called 'the three trees', and each class read out poems and prayers for Easter. |
|
|---|---|
The Reverend Budgell explained to everyone where her 'stole' had originated from, and explained what each colour stole represents. |
|
We sang four special hymns for the occasion, and some of us even had a chance to play the organ after the service! Thanks to the Reverend Budgell and Mr Budgell for a lovely service, and thank you to the parents and governors who attended. A big well done to all the children for performing and singing so beautifully! |

Tennis time!
|
Diamond and Ruby classes took part in specialist tennis lessons on Wednesday with a qualified instructor. Everyone enjoyed practising catching and hitting the ball in different ways. Rubies thought the best bit was when the instructor hit the ball and it made a big SPLASH in the pond! |
|---|
Take one Picture progressDiamonds have painted the different pieces of their design. Soon they will be moving on to adding detail to their images using wool.
|
|---|
Rubies have now painted their traced pattern - we think it looks very 1920s! From this they have started rag-rugging.
|
|---|
Sapphires have now moved on to working with Mudrock.
|
|
|---|
Outdoor Campaigners assembly
On Tuesday 20th March we enjoyed a special assembly taken by the Outdoor Campaigners. They painted a special picture as they told the story of a young boy who grew up to make a huge difference to his community, and helped us think about ways in which can make a difference to the lives of other people.
|
|---|
Well done to the year 3s and 4s for taking part in their first ever netball tournament!Our squad travelled to Sherborne Abbey School on Wednesday 21st March to take part in the pyramid netball tournament. We were nervous but excited, and after playing 8 matches, we came 5th overall, which we're very happy with. We made some great shots at goal, and now need to practise our marking and snappy passing. Well done everyone!
|
|---|
Our snooker table is back in operation!Our snooker table, which is a popular choice for golden time, was in rather a poor state. That is until Mr Dummett kindly stepped in and offered to refurbish it for us. Now it looks as good as new! Many thanks to Mr Dummett for taking the time and resources to help us get back into championship-playing mode! |
|
|---|---|
Sapphires practise their sewing-machine skillsWe are very lucky to benefit from the amazing sewing skills of Mrs Scott, who comes in every week to help Sapphires with creative projects. At the moment, she is helping us make our tidy-bags, which we hang on the back of our chairs. Some of us were a bit nervous about using a sewing machine at first, but now we are becoming much more confident! A big thanks to Mrs Scott for donating her time and skills. |
Portrait perfectionChildren from each class have been working with Mrs Lewis to create staff portraits. These will be displayed in our newly decorated reception area - come and take a look! Mrs Lewis helped us think carefully about proportioning features, and close-up detail. Thanks to her help, we have lots of budding professional artists on our hands! |
|---|
Rubies link up with an American school...via Skype! |
Rubies have formed a link with a large Primary school in America, in the city of Indianapolis. Using Skype on the school laptops, the children have had their first video call with children in the 'Fourth Grade'. So far, we have introduced ourselves and asked questions about each other's schools. We have found out that there are around 500 people at the American school, and it has 19 classes! We showed them our school field and the views and the children thought they were 'awesome'! |
We plan on a regular link up in order to help us write 'biographies' of our new transatlantic friends. Following that, we aim to have a once weekly video call to see how we can help each other learn. Rubies have already learnt that despite the differences between our school and the American school, we also have lots of things in common. To find out more about our link-up school, click here to be taken to their website. |
|---|
Take One Picture: Sapphires progress with their Cubist modelsArtist Jane Burden spent an afternoon with Sapphire class, as they explored translating their still life sketches into 3D Cubist shapes. The next stage will be creating these in Mudrock. Jane will be in next week helping Diamonds and Rubies with their artwork based on the William Kalf painting. |
|---|
Special Sapphire Celebration AssemblyWatch their performance by clicking on the above! |
Children, staff, parents and governors watched a fabulous assembly on Wednesday 14th March given by Sapphires. Demonstrating their learning so far during the Spring term, we were treated to a brilliant maths masterclass in angles and types of lines by Jasper and Toby, along with writing and artwork from 'The Sailing Boat in the Sky' that Sapphires studied during Book Week. Every member of the class took part - and all of Sapphires ended their assembly with a medley of songs they had learnt on their 'ocarinas'. |
|---|

Fairtrade tea-partyTo mark the end of Fairtrade Fortnight, Mrs Green organised a fabulous tea-party for the whole school, using the fairtrade items kindly donated by families. She was able to offer out cereal bars, bananas dipped in chocolate and cocoa powder, and segments of orange and pineapple. We also watched different Fairtrade video clips to learn about how buying Fairtrade items helps workers gain a fair wage in order to help them in having their basic human rights met. |
|---|
Mrs Crumpler was also able to announce how much money had been collected by the donation of coppers - £45! Matched by government funding, this will mean we have raised £90 to go towards clean water schemes in Africa through Cafod. For more information on their 'thirsting for change' scheme, click here to be taken to their website. Thank you to everyone who contributed towards making our Fairtrade Fortnight special. |
|---|
Mrs Green has organised a series of events to take place to support 'Fairtrade Fortnight', and to raise awareness of the Fairtrade organization. For more information about what we have planned, please click here to read her letter. To find out more about Fairtrade, visit their website by clicking here.We have been learning about Fairtrade through different activities. In Sapphires, we were put in to groups with specific materials, and had to make certain objects in order to earn money. Each group was missing something important, and had to use teamwork and ingenuity to keep their production line going! In Rubies, we used the coppers collected in as a maths lesson, where we practised our skills in counting and grouping money in different amounts, before bagging it and checking it was correct. Some of us were also able to estimate the total amount raised, by multiplying the number of tables counting money (eleven) by the amount they had counted themselves, using the multiplication grid method to work it out. |
|
|---|
Congratulations to our netball team, who played matches against teams from the Sherborne Partnership at the Gryphon School on Wednesday 7th March. They came joint second out of all the participating schools, and are now looking forward to the North Dorset Championship! |

Year 3 visit to the Ancient Technology CentreNews flash! Watch a video of us explaining how to dig a field here; how to plough a field here; and watch how we draw water here.
|
Miss S and the year 3s, along with children from Buckland Newton and Bradford Abbas schools, visited the Ancient Technology Centre in Cranborne on Thursday 8th March, where they explored what life would have been like for people living in England during the Stone age and the Iron age. We undertook several different activities that children would have had to do on a daily basis back then, such as digging the ground to prepare it for growing crops, ploughing the fields, drawing water, making fences, and creating fire. We saw recreations of ancient buildings, and even sat on animal skin rugs that included beavers, bears and wolves! We had such a great day - some of us even said it was the best day out they'd ever had!Thank you to Mrs Harvey for accompanying us on our trip! |

Fairtrade Family Fun Day Tuesday 6th MarchParents and children have been invited to spend time having some creative fun together using fairtrade products, in a special day run by Dorset County Council. Using chocolate, coffee, tea and bananas as inspiration, they are making some wonderful artwork to take home.
|

Take One PictureWe are taking part in this national art initiative, where creative projects are undertaken in collaboration with local artists, based on a specific picture. The picture this year is called 'Still Life with Drinking Horn', and is by the Dutch artist William Kalf. Each class is working with local artist Jane Burden, who has been the creative force behind our previous fantastic projects for Take One Picture. Diamonds are looking at the use of reflections through collage; Rubies are exploring rag-rugging using the carpet as stimulus, and Sapphires are examining the picture through Cubism.
|
Finished artwork from our school will be shown alongside other pieces from our cluster schools at a special exhibition in the Summer term. To find out more about the National Gallery Take One Picture scheme, the picture and the artist, click here to be taken to their website. We will put more pictures up of our projects as they progress! |

Our Chess Tournament has started!
Tuesday lunchtimes are currently filled with adrenalin as members of the chess club have begun their annual tournament. Organised by Mrs James, key stage 2 chess players have been split into four groups, where they will play several games against members of that group. The two people from each group with the most points will move on to the next stage of the competition. From then it's a knock-out until we have our chess champion for 2012! |
Miss S managed to speak to some of the competitors during their first round matches. She asked Sam what skills were required to be a great chess player: "full concentration and good tactics". Billy agreed, and added that you need to have a "good mind and clever thinking". Miss S also asked why they decided to take up chess. Samuel said "it's a good opportunity for me to develop my skills", and Jordan explained that "it's fun - when I get a point it makes me happy". Check back over the next few weeks to find out how the tournament is progressing. For more information about chess club, take a look at our chess page on the website. |

Curriculum CookingWe are very lucky to benefit from the culinary talents of three parents, Mrs Harvey, Mrs Read and Mrs Loader, who have kindly donated their time to provide children with a weekly experience of food preparation and cooking during golden time. This term, we have extended the time given for cooking to approximately an hour, and made it part of our curriculum learning time. Each week, children from different classes are learning how to prepare and create nutritious and healthy snacks, working together as a team. In this way, all children across the school will have the opportunity to learn about healthy eating, and acquire the skills to make informed choices about food and its preparation. This is really important to us as a healthy school. For more information about keeping healthy, click here to visit the government's 'Change4Life' website. |
We love seeing what they've made each week - and the smells coming from the kitchen are fabulous! |
|---|
Piano LessonsMrs Irving has started to provide piano lessons for those children who wanted to take it up as an instrument. We are doing really well, and with practice hope to perform what we have been learning at a future celebration assembly! |

|
We will also be holding a Scholastic Book Fair, which will run from Tuesday 28th February to Monday 5th March, before and after school in the school hall. Books at BedtimeWe held our first ever books at bedtime event on Thursday 1st March at 6pm. Children came to school in pyjamas with their teddies, and listened to books read by staff before having a hot chocolate (and marshmallows) and a biscuit in the hall. |
They enjoyed one last story read to them by Mrs Crumpler before it was time to go home. Everyone who came thought it was brilliant, and that we should definitely do it next year. The year 6s who said they won't be here next year have been invited back to help with the reading next time! |

Their learning will be ready for Diamonds' celebration assembly, so do remember to come and see all the great things they have been achieving on Wednesday 21st March at 9am in the school hall. Many thanks go to everyone involved in the trip, including Mr Harding for accompanying Diamonds. |

We thought carefully about the meaning and significance of Lent, and gave extra thanks and prayers to people who are important to us. The Reverend made the sign of the cross in ash on the foreheads of representatives from each class. |

Take a look at our Christmas schedule below - there are lots of exciting things happening!
Christmas Party time!On Thursday 15th December the whole school dressed up in fancy dress and enjoyed lots of party food, following a special visit from Father Christmas! |
|---|
A visit from Father Christmas... on a tractor!During our Christmas Party lunch on the 15th December we were thrilled and delighted to receive a surprise visit from Father Christmas, who chose the perfect countryside form of transport to get here: a tractor! He asked if everyone had been good, and said that he had read all of our letters, before giving out sweets. Thank you for visiting us Father Christmas! |
Letters to Father Christmas... care of the Chief ElfOn Thursday 8th December we had a flying visit from Father Christmas' Chief Elf. She arrived by helicopter to meet the children and collect in their letters to Father Christmas, which every child had written. Staff have chosen letters from each class that they were really impressed with, to put on the website. See if you can work out why!
A big thank you also to the year 6s, who helped members of Diamonds compose their letters. The letter below was written in a 'buddy pair'. Isobel in Reception told Sophie H what to put down. |
Diamonds...Dear Santa, Please may I have a box of Bloco. I would like a box of Bloco. It would be fun. Love from Eleanor.
Rubies...Dear Father Christmas, this time for Christmas I would like to share things with every poor child, but first I would really appreciate it if you could get me a 3DS. For the poor children I think they should get healthy food and water. From Oliver. Dear Father Christmas, I am writing to tell you what I would like for me and everyone else this Christmas. This year I only want a few things, like Supergraphics and Vectron Wave. May you give Christmas spirit to all who need it and all who don't, and a box of chocolates for granny please. Please make another child's Christmas special and magical, as ours are. Give them the correct medical care, so that they live longer, give them education, so that they can progress in every subject as their lives expand. Sprinkle some magic on those children this Christmas. Yours sincerely Ellen. |
Sapphires...Dear Santa, I would like for Christmas a Smurf book, because I have watched the movie but I think the book will be far better. Also may I be able to have a Tweety-pie key ring, so I can hang it in my school bag. I know I'm being greedy but could you also bring some chocolate and Smurf dvds, so my family and I can have a cinema. From Brooke. Dear Father Christmas, this year I've asked for quite an expensive gift I admit but if you could squeeze one or two things for me and my family you wouldn't believe how much I would appreciate it. It would be fantastic if we as a family could have a chess set. I desperately want to beat my dad and help my mum learn. The pleasant surprise is I would love to see it snowing, I think many people would agree with me, and in return I shall give you some luscious goodies for you and your reindeer - or tell me what do you fancy? Thank you so much! From Jack. |

Tuck shop updateThis term our weekly tuck shop has raised just over £150 for school funds. It is an extremely popular part of the children's Thursdays! We are all so grateful to the people who have provided items to sell, and to all parents for providing money for the children to buy the items! Also a big well done to the year 6s who organise the tuck shop, including laying out the goods, following strict health and hygiene standards when dealing with food, organising who serves and who takes the money, and counting the profits afterwards. They have demonstrated excellent organisation and business skills! |
|---|
Gryphon and All Saints recorder concertWe were lucky enough to receive a visit from the Gryphon School's recorder ensemble on Thursday 15th December. Members of Rubies and Sapphires had practised a version of 'Good King Wensleslas', which they performed with the Gryphon students. They had only learnt the carol in a week, and it sounded brilliant! |
|---|
Christmas Carol ServiceOn the evening of Wednesday 14th December, a magical Christmas Carol service was held at Stourton Caundle church. Lots of families came to hear the year 6s give special readings. The teachers were so proud of them, as every child read absolutely BEAUTIFULLY! Rubies created a nativity tableaux, and played their parts extremely well. We also sang lots of festive carols, and went home full of Christmas cheer. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event! |
|---|
Our Christmas nativity - soon to be in the Western Gazette!Our nativity this year is called 'The Animals from the Stable' - the children in Diamonds decided what animals would be there! Rubies provided choral support, and sang beautifully. The solo singers sounded amazing! Before the nativity began, Sapphires performed the story of 'Pappa Panov' off by heart, and performed their 12 bar blues composition. After the performance, a photographer from the Western Gazette came and took a photo of our nativity scene - hopefully it will be in an upcoming issue! Listen to performances of the Ruby Choir singing songs from the nativity here: |
|---|
Key Stage 1 party and meeting Father ChristmasDiamonds played party games and saw Father Christmas on Friday 9th December. Everyone told him what they would like for Christmas, and he said he'd talk to the Elves and gave them a chocolate treat.
|
Key Stage 2 disco!Rubies and Sapphires brought their best dance moves to the school disco, which included a dance-off between boys v girls and the two classes. Everyone had great fun dancing - some of us couldn't stop! |
|---|
Hot school meals Christmas specialSo many of our children opted for the hot school meal on Thursday - there was a queue all around the outside of the hall! We had a full turkey lunch with mince pies, party hats and festive tunes. Thanks to Mrs Chalke and Mrs Hallett for being fantastic lunchtime supervisors, and making the mealtime run seamlessly!

The Chief Elf has landed!The whole school was filled with excitement on Thursday 8th December as a helicopter flew in to land on the school field, bringing with it Father Christmas' Chief Elf! The elf visited each class and picked up our letters for Father Christmas. We asked her lots of questions, sung her a song, then rushed outside to wave her off as the helicopter picked her up and sped away. It's so exciting to think our letters are now en route to the North Pole!
Take a look HERE at the video Miss S took of the helicopter dropping off the Chief Elf, and HERE to see the Chief Elf leaving with our letters for Father Christmas! |

Sapphires play the blues...Years 5 and 6 have been working with Miss Davies from the music department at the Gryphon School, learning about the 12 bar blues. Through these workshops, they have created a song to fit a Victorian poem written by Eleanor Farjean. |
|---|
Mrs Dodd, artist extraordinaire!Rubies have been learning about famous Victorian painters in art as part of their Victorian topic, including the work of John Everett Millais, who painted the famous 'Ophelia' painting. Rubies had all contributed to creating a large-scale version, but needed some help thinking about how to paint in the facial features. So they were thrilled to have help from parent Sam Dodd, who just so happens to be a professional artist! She worked with the class in small groups to help them add facial features that were clear and in proportion. Take a look at the finished result and see what you think. Thank you Mrs Dodd for your help! |
|---|
Christmas lambs!On Monday 5th of December the whole school was lucky enough to receive a visit from Sophie's dad, who brought in two of his baby lambs. We were allowed to stroke them - they felt wonderfully soft! Sophie's dad was extremely impressed with the questions we asked - we found out that the numbers made with red spray on their backs is so that the farmer can match them with their mums, and that these lambs are for breeding, NOT for eating (phew!). Rubies wrote Mr Hole thank you letters for showing us his amazing lambs. Miss S and Mrs Green chose these letters by Finlay and Annabelle because they used excellent specific vocabulary and paragraphs. |
These letters have actually been typed straight onto the website by Finlay and Annabelle themselves!
Dear Mr Hole, I'm writing to you because I would like to say a big thank you for showing us the lambs! It was very fun because it was the first time ever I'd stroked a lamb I've only seen one. I felt good because it was the first time I'd ever felt fur in my life. I found out when the belly button fell off it didn't hurt at all. What is it like to own sheep? Why do they have those tags on their ears? When does their belly button fall off? How many sheep have you got? From Finlay. Dear Mr Hole, I'm writing to you to say thank you for bringing two of your lambs in for our school to see. I can't imagine what it was like for you to get the lambs you wanted, and transporting them to our school. I also wonder how much trouble it was getting them out of the field and into the box. It was such a great experience because I have never stroked a lamb before. I felt like I was touching a jumper. When you brought the lambs in I discovered that they don't have names and they are one week old. They have little tags on their ears like number plates on a car. Also they are sprayed one side to match them with their mum. Yours sincerely Annabelle.

Bring your Christingle...Last Thursday we all went to Bishops Caundle church for our Christingle service. Lots of parents came to hear us sing special hymns, read prayers, and light our Christingles. We remembered what each part of the Christingle represented. Although we were encouraged to wait until we got home before eating any of it, some of us couldn't resist, and the sweets and fruit had already gone by the time we arrived back at school! |

Thursday 20th 'twilight' evening.This is the second session where we are revisiting our values, aims and purposes as a school. We believe that successful learning is a result of having clear and achievable aims, so we are taking time to decide what they should be for our school. We are currently doing this with parents, children and governors. At the moment we have looked at the things we do well. Now we are going to take a look at the things we need to improve to make our school the best place of learning it can be. |
What do we do well here at All Saints?What could we do to improve?
