Reading

Learning & Support

Early Years
All children begin their reading journey on 'Lilac' which are picture books to encourage communication and a love for reading by talking through the illustrations.
Our books are organised phonetically so that when children are ready to start our reading scheme, they do at a level that is right for them.
All our books at this stage are fully decodable.
Book schemes we use are:
Bug club phonics
Collins big cat
Floppy's phonics letters and sounds

Key Stage 1
As children progress through letters and sounds, our book scheme continues.  Again books are fully decodable.  Children will be sent home with a book to encourage fluency as well as a book that develops their decoding.
Book schemes we use are:
Bug club phonics
Collins big cat
Floppy's phonics letters and sounds

Key Stage 2

Each day children:
- have guided reading
- ERIC time (everyone reading in class)
- listen to a whole class story (read by an adult in school)

We use Collins Big Cat reading books in KS2.  We also have an impressive reading area where reading books are organised into poetry, fiction and non-fiction texts.  Fiction books are organised into authors as well as themes such as an action section as well as an animal lover section!

We also have additional reading schemes for children who find progress in reading difficult, these include:
