Cross Country Sporting Event

Area Cross Country- Gryphon School Wednesday 26th February

Nine of our Year 5 and 6 pupils represented All Saints at this annual event- and, as usual, the weather was bitterly cold and blustery.  However, the rain didn’t fall and it was quite a sunny afternoon.

The boys set off around the course first.  Our squad of Alex, Austin, Connor, Max, Ollie and Sam kept up a good pace and were bunched together in the middle of the pack as it disappeared across the road into the upper field. Eight minutes later the first runners could be seen…..but where were the purple t-shirts? Hooray! The first All Saints runner to reappear was Max, who crossed the line a very commendable 13th place (great running for a Year 5).  The rest of the team followed and we scored 90 points- rather too many to put us in the top spots- but still very commendable.

Next it was the turn of our girls.  Unfortunately, through illness our team was much reduced- but they went for it.  Natasha, Olivia and Chloe set off at quite a brisk pace, with the instructions of, “Don’t go too fast at the beginning,” ringing in their ears!  Following the same route at the boys, they too soon disappeared to run round the very wet and muddy upper field. As the first runners returned we were looking for our distinctive purple t-shirts and before long, there was Natasha- running in a brilliant 9th place.  Olivia and Chloe soon joined her and huge congratulations to them for completing the course.

Cross Country running isn’t as easy as it sounds.  It’s a real test of stamina and endurance. So, a big thank you and CONGRATULATIONS to all of our runners for staying and completing the course.
