Food Explorers!
In DT we have been looking at lots of different foods. We have been identifying which foods are good for us and which foods are not so good for us. We have been looking at the Eatwell guide which has explained what foods we need to eat to have a balanced diet. We learnt about which foods help us to grow and which foods give us energy.
We explored the packaging on foods to find out what information it gives us. We found the best before dates and use by dates.
We have been making use of our food which is no longer in date. We have also made some instruments ready to use in our music lessons!

Today we made banana smoothies and peach muffins. We have been learning to apply our maths learning to measure the ingredients accurately. We had great fun making and baking these! The recipes are below if you would like to give them a go.
Banana Smoothies
Ingredients :
- 1 banana
- 300ml milk
- 2 tbsp of low fat natural yoghurt
First peel the banana and slice using a knife.
Next measure out the milk and yoghurt.
Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend.
Finally enjoy your tasty drink!
Peach muffins
Ingredients :
- 250g self raising flour
- 100g caster sugar
- 230ml semi-skimmed milk
- 1 egg
- 60ml vegetable oil
- 1 can of peaches drained from the juice
First measure out your ingredients .
Next put the flour and sugar in a bowl and mix.
Pour the milk slowly into the bowl whilst stirring.
Then mix in the oil and the egg. Mix until the mixture has come together and forms a smooth batter. Drain the fruit from the can and chopped into pieces.
Stir in the fruit.
Divide the mixture equally between the muffin cases.
After that, bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden.
Allow muffins to cool and finally enjoy your delicious muffin!

Today we linked our Re learning with cooking. We independently made chocolate crispy cakes with a mini egg on top. We followed the instructions and used our maths skills to measure out the ingridients and we worked together in a team. We learnt about what Christians believe and the Easter story. We made crispy cakes which we decided represented the hill where Jesus died on the cross and the mini egg on top which represents new life and also the tomb which Jesus was buried in. We learnt about hot cross buns and what the represent and remind Christians of. We got to taste them too!
