During Autumn 2 Term, we have been exploring seasonality in the UK. We have looked at how far the foods we buy from the supermarket travel from (Food Miles) and which foods grow in which season in the UK.
Food Tasting
Once we had established which foods grow in the UK, and in which season they were available, we tasted and rated different ingredients so we could decide which ones to include in our Seasonal Recipes.

Cutting and Peeling Skills
We have learned to safely use knives and peelers to prepare fruit and vegetables. We started practicing with playdough, and then moved on to real foods.

Seasonal Winter Tartlets
Seasonal Winter Tartlets
The children all selected up to three of their favourite autumn/winter fruits or vegetable and planned their final project recipes.
They then used their cutting and peeling skills to prepare the ingredients and create some delicious winter tartlets. Later on they enjoyed tasting and evaluating their creations.
