Science - Pond Life
Autumn 1

We went to say hello to the fish in the school pond!  Everyone fed the fish a pinch of fish flakes, then we waited patiently for them to come up to the surface.
Visit the October NEWS section to see Year 1's amazing 'How to Use a Beebot' video

YR have been learning to take photographs of their models made during COOL time.
Autumn Term 2 - Year 1 Materials (Science)

This term, Y1 have learning about different materials and how to describe the properties of different objects.  We have also investigated, 'Is it tough?'   'Is it absorbant?'  and 'Is it waterproof?'
Autumn 2 Reception - Exploring Hot and Cold (Science)

This term YR have explored changes involving hot and cold!

We have....

-Learned how polar bears are able to stay warm in the icy Arctic
-Found ways to melt ice cubes the fastest
-Found ways to keep ice cubes frozen for the longest
-Explored what happens to different foods when they are heated up
-Recycled and made our own new wax crayons
-Made warm winter outfits for the dolls by choosing the best materials

Autumn Term 2 Computing - Year 1
This term we have been learning how to take clear photographs, and then edit them by changing the colours, cropping and deleting unwanted shots.
We also learned how to search safely online to find images and add them to our documents.
Autumn 2 Reception - Computing
This half term YR have been learning about algorithms through practical games and play.   We have learned the importance of giving very clear instructions and verbally debugging our algorithms when they go wrong!
Science - Sorting and Classifying
Spring 1

Today we looked at different ways to group objects and animals by sorting them into two groups.  Reception discussed how to tell if something is living or non-living, and Year 1 looked at the features of different types of animals.

Spring 2 Computing (Y1)
Stop Motion Animation

This term we have looked at flicker books, stop motion apps, and made our own simple stop motion photo animations.
Spring 2 (Y1) Science
Uses of Everyday Materials

We started the unit by exploring whether different materials could be squashed, twisted, bent or stretched.
Spring 2 (Y1) Science
Uses of Everyday Materials

Today we compared different materials to see which one would stretch the most.
Everyone had a different role in the science research team!
YR Spring Time
We have been exploring all the signs of Spring this term!

Here are some of our final pieces of display work, showing the birds singing in a tree full of buds and blossoms, in the bluebell woods.  We also made spring wreaths after learning about different spring flowers.
Making Connections - Senses (Goldilocks and the Three Bears)

Please click here to see the lesson Year 1 Diamonds pupils enjoyed where we asked the question, 'Which parts of our body are best for checking the temperature of porridge?'
