Reception Explore Floating and Sinking

This week's Child Led Enquiry question is....
 
How do people swim and float?   What else can float?

 

We started by talking together and exploring books about swimming and floating.   After that we explored which objects would float and sink in the water tray and thought about why some of them floated when others didn't.  Later on, some children made pictures of floating boats as they talked about how they stayed above the water instead of sinking to the bottom.   We plan to explore the swimming element further by interviewing some of the Year 1 pupils who have recently been in our school swimming pool.
